More than 3.600 people yearly.
Suicide represents a major health problem in Spain .More than 3.600 people die every year by suicide. To this , we also have to add the numbers of all the people that attempt suicide or have suicide ideation. Suicide can be preventable and The World Health Organization encouraged the countries to work to reduce a 10% world suicide rates by 2020.
In Spain, we still don´t have a National Strategy for suicide prevention and suicidal conduct management that globally fosters preventive actions and improves health attention to those already affected by this problematic. Although we are aware of the concern from the Spanish Health Ministry about this matter, the future plan should prioritize the actions that will modify the social determinants of health, prevention from childhood and adolescence and the strengthening of communitary health attention.
It is necessary to talk about suicide.

La palabra maldita (“The Buried word”) actively participates in this conversation, we want to learn how to help prevent more deaths and share, through the documentary format, the reality that takes away 10 lifes a day on average in Spain.
It is necessary to talk about suicide everyday in order to erase the stigma that sorrounds this matter. We invite you to join the online event on the 30th of September 2020 to continue the “Great Conversation” (Gran Conversación) about suicide prevention.
