We interviewed some personalities from different fields that work on the prevention of suicide.
June 22nd. Suicide in Occidental History.



It was a pleasure to talk to the poet and essay writter Ramón Andrés, International Award of the Culture, Príncipe de Viana 2015 and academic from The Royal Catalonian Fine Art Academy of Saint Jordi ( la Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi). Ramón is the author of the book “Historia del Suicidio en Occidente“. A reference book that analyzes the history of suicide from the origins of humanity until our time.
June 23rd. Suicide in media.

Surrounded by books, at the former Diario de NAvarra,we interviewed Gabriel González, journalist for Diario de Navarra and a member of the commission for the suicide prevention of the Foral Government. He is also the author of the book “Hablemos del suicidio: pautas y reflexiones para abordar este tema en los medios”
WHO indicates that talking about suicide prevents. Gabriel highlights in his book that Media has to be extremely careful on how to inform about this subject because it can have a “Suicide contagion effect”. Just yesterday 17th of July, The Spanish Health Ministery published a document of recomendations for Media to inform about suicidal conduct.
June 24th. Institutional Prevention Strategies.

Our next destination was San Sebastian, where we had the privilege to talk to Andrea Gabilondo, psychiatrist in charge of the Suicide prevention strategy of the Vasc County Government. This strategy was presented a year ago and it was the first one of its kind in Euskadi. Its two ways of actions are: Early detection of suicidal conduct risk and social awareness of suicide, breaking taboos and the stigma linked to it. This initiative also takes care of the survivors.
June 26th A perspective from Biological Psychiatry .


We continued with the interviews, this time we talked to Ana González-Pinto Arrillaga, who gave us some suicide conduct data from a Biological Psychiatry perspective. As the new president of the Spanish Society of Biological Psychiatry she informed us about its 2020 Action Plan that has as main objectives the improvement in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of depression and suicide. They also want to support the development of a national strategy of suicide prevention.
June 26th. Mental Health Confederation.



The Asturias Paraíso Natural Film Commission eased the shooting of our documentary, allowing us to shoot in the Mural´s Room (Sala de los Murales) of the Universidad Laboral of Gijon, for the interview with Nel González Zapico, president of the Mental Health Confederation in Spain. We were delighted to discuss ideas about suicide prevention with Nel in that breathtaking location.
After five intense days of nourrishing conversations and long shooting hours enjoying amazing landscapes and places, we have lots to view, process and edit.
